Computer System Running Slow!

There are several reasons for slowness or excessive processor and memory usage. ZoneAlarm does use some system resources and on some older or slower computers this can be noticeable, but it shouldn't slow the computer down a great deal.

Please ensure that you have uninstalled any other equivalent products to ZoneAlarm such as other Firewalls and AntiVirus (assuming the version of ZoneAlarm you purchased has AntiVirus protection), in order to ensure there are no conflicts with ZoneAlarm.

Try to narrow down which programs are causing the problem by going to the Windows START menu and choose Run. Type:
taskmgr.exe
Then click [OK].

When the Windows Task Manager opens please choose the Processes tab near the top of the window. Click on the CPU column (literally on the "CPU" writing") TWICE, which should sort the list from Highest to Lowest.

Ignore the System Idle Process entry as that shows unused CPU usage, but look for the other entries in the list near the top. If there are entries present with high CPU and/or high Mem Usage for extended periods of time, they could be causing problems on your computer and may need further investigation.

The ZoneAlarm processes may include some or all of the following (depending upon your version of ZoneAlarm):
zlclient.exe
ScanningProcess.exe (often there are 2 of these processes)
vsmon.exe
mantispm.exe
ISWMGR.exe (often there are 2 of these processes)
ISWSVC.exe
ForceField.exe
