Open a Port or Enable Remote Access to a Program or Service

If you need to enable access to a remote program or service running on the computer, you will need to open up the port in ZoneAlarm’s firewall as per the instructions below:
Open ZoneAlarm by double clicking on the ZoneAlarm "Z" icon in the tray, choose "Firewall" on the left, "Expert" below and then click the "Add" button.

Give the new rule a "Rank" (1 is suggested), enter a "Name" for the rule, make sure that the "State" option is on Enabled, the "Action" should be on Allow, and the "Track" field is probably best on either "Log" OR "None". If you choose "Alert and Log", a ZoneAlarm popup notification will be displayed every time a new connection to the computer is made.
SOURCE:

If applicable, you can lock down access to the port by selecting a "Source" (usually IP Address, Host/Site etc). For this example we will leave the "Source" as "Any".

DESTINATION:

Choose a "Destination" by clicking "Modify", "Add Location" and "My Computer" (My Computer is suggested but other options are available).
PROTOCOL:

In the "Protocol" area click "Modify", "Add Protocol" and "Add Protocol". In the "Add Protocol" window choose the following:

Protocol > (choose TCP and/or UDP - depending upon what the program or service requires. Note: "most" programs use TCP.)

Description > (choose a name)

Destination Port > Other > (choose the port number required to access by the program or service)

Source Port > Other > Any

Click OK

Click OK on the ADD RULE Window and then Apply on Main ZoneAlarm Window.
